Next week, the city of Seville, Spain, will host the ITS European Congress 2025, gathering innovators and stakeholders shaping the future of smart and sustainable mobility. Among the standout participants is the NextETRUCK project, which will take the stage with a Special Interest Session (SIS).

On Monday, 19 May, from 14:00 to 15:00, NextETRUCK will host SIS 13 – Digital Twins: enabling efficient and cost-effective transport electrification. The session will explore the role of Digital Twins in accelerating the electrification of transport, particularly for electric trucks, through design optimisation, smart fleet operations, and predictive maintenance. It will also tackle challenges around standardisation and evaluate whether Digital Twins truly deliver on their promises of cost reduction and streamlined freight logistics operations.

With urban delivery demands and e-commerce logistics on the rise, the need for sustainable, scalable solutions in freight transport is more urgent than ever. Electrification is central to this shift, and Digital Twins offer a powerful tool to simulate, test, and optimise these systems before deployment. By enabling real-time monitoring and data-driven decision-making, they play a crucial role in reducing emissions, enhancing reliability, and lowering costs.

The session will feature an expert panel moderated by Jean-Charles Pandazis (ERTICO-ITS) and organised by Prisca Numbisi (ERTICO-ITS), with speakers including:

The NextETRUCK initiative is part of the 2Zero Partnership, a collaborative European effort aiming to achieve zero-tailpipe-emission vehicles. This aligns with broader EU objectives for climate neutrality and sustainable mobility.

In addition to this session, the ITS Congress will feature a rich programme of Special Interest Sessions, Technical Papers, live demonstrations, and a large Exhibition area. Don’t miss the chance to engage with the NextETRUCK team and learn more about the project by visiting the ERTICO Stand (#C5).
